I believe as much in dedication as the next person and firmly believe you are defined in life not by what you do best, but by what you do most. However, even I was impressed by the fortitude of this mother-daughter duo, posing here on the step of the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland), also known as the the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, the monument dedicated to the first king of a unified Italy. It is one of the most impressive structures in Rome–too large for some tastes–and rises above and includes the Tomb of the Unknown.
I took a few shots. They held the pose. I shot other stuff. They held the pose. Then I switched cameras, and they still held the pose.
